Limitless has created a way for artists to create computer animations while inside a virtual reality world.

“…We looked at a lot of the existing tools for 3D creation, such as CAD, and thought that a lot of them make it hard for people who are more visually and spatially inclined to use because they’re so reliant on math…”

According to Gravity Sketch, the future of design is virtual reality – and they’ve got new software to convince you of exactly that. Here’s how it works and how you can get your hands on it… more at Digital Trends

Limitless lets artists create character animations within virtual reality

VentureBeat

“…We just need to remove the barrier formed by our software, so we can all create stories using the inspiration that we already have inside of us…”

Limitless has created a way for artists to create computer animations while inside a virtual reality world. The company has developed a tool that allows someone to use an HTC Vive VR headset and its hand controls to spell out exactly what will happen as the animation unfolds in real time. The tool could save tons of hours for animators in creating both prototypes and final animations in VR, said Tom Sanocki, CEO of Bellevue, Wash.-based Limitless, in an interview with GamesBeat. … Read the full story

Race fans can watch Formula E highlights in VR

“…fans will be to move freely around the track as they wish, as well as use a “guided mode” to follow specific drivers around each circuit…”

Formula E has offered a sneak peak into what it sees as the future of watching sporting highlights by revealing how they’re using virtual reality to offer a new perspective on races. Earlier this year the electric car racing series announced it had started working with VR firm Virtually Live to create virtual reality highlights packages from their races. The twist would be that these highlights would be computer-generated versions of the races, giving a video game-like experience … more at IrishExaminer.com

Tilt Brush as an immersive, addictive art-making experience

“…Usually, art is a single-person activity, but given the three-dimensional nature of Tilt Brush creations, the “multiplayer” mode is not only practical, but could also be a first step toward gamifying the art creation experience…”

Google’s Tilt Brush, the app that lets you “sculpt” paintings in virtual reality, is getting a new set of features that move the VR tool far beyond the realm of interactive art. … more at Mashable

Google shows off Tilt Brush VR painting

“…It’s amazing how collaborating in the same space makes the virtual feel real. We think you’ll love this one, so we’re exploring ways to develop this concept further…”

Google today is unveiling new prototypes it has developed for Tilt Brush, a 3D painting app that’s available for the HTC Vive virtual reality headset. It’s a lot of fun to use the app on your own. But if a video preview is any indication, Tilt Brush will get really cool when you can use it with someone else. “It’s amazing how collaborating in the same space makes the virtual feel real. We think you’ll love this one, so we’re exploring ways to develop this concept further,” Google Tilt Brush Drew … more at VentureBeat

PlayStation VR’s Thumper is “mind-bending”

“I had a great time, but I can absolutely contend that the colors, flashing, and intensity will certainly be a bit much for some people to handle.”

Thumper, by DROOL, appears to be some sort of trippy racing game. But upon playing it, you’ll find it’s actually more a rhythm game that has you turning, shifting lanes, and jumping your car to the beat, or “thump” in this case, of the music. While the entire game is playable outside of VR on a standard PS4 and on Steam, it clearly excels at providing the most pulse-pounding and exhilarating experience while wearing the PS VR headset… Thumper releases with the PS VR headset on October 13th. more at UploadVR

VR concert/DJ platform for “incredibly immersive synesthetic experiences”

“The goal is to bring people together but also create this new type of experience.”

TheWaveVR is an Austin-based company founded earlier this year that is bringing virtual reality technology to the music industry with a new DJing platform of the same name. The online app is accessible through a variety of virtual reality headsets, including the HTC Vive, Samsung Gear VR, and Google Cardboard. “Basically it’s a virtual venue in the cloud where someone can go into this venue and DJ,” explained Adam Arrigo, one of the company’s founders. “The audience can be networked in from anywhere in the world and actually be virtually represented in this venue and interact with each other, dance and watch this concert…” much more at VICE

VR gaming with Resident Evil 7 Biohazard Lantern demo on PS4

“…As I explored the old, dark, creepy house, I didn’t really want to open more doors. Or looking around with my head as I didn’t want to see things I wouldn’t want to see…”

I’ve never played a VR game before. Sure, my legs got numb and I had to sit down as soon as I was carried into a virtual roller coaster ride with the Oculus Rift some months ago. My brain simply told me there’s no way I should be standing while “riding” this. Last Friday, thanks to Plantronics Australia and Double Jump, I was exposed to Resident Evil 7 Biohazard Lantern VR gameplay demo on the PS4. I sort of almost wet my pants. Well, a bit too dramatic perhaps, but my imaginations ran wild … more at Craving Tech
